Seven rooms in seven colors plus two, and music in every room!
The theme for our closing party is taken from Edgar Allan Poe’s short story published in 1842. The story follows Prince Prospero's attempts to avoid a dangerous plague, known as the Red Death, by hiding in his abbey . He, along with many other wealthy nobles, hosts a masquerade ball within seven rooms of the abbey, each decorated and illuminated in seven colors: blue, green, violet, orange, purple, white and black. It was to be their final party. Our party turns the story on its head, our convent is not a place to hide, it has always welcomed all and brought together everyone.
Just like Prospero’s Masqued Ball, the final exhibition in the convent will feature seven rooms in seven colors, each room filled with artworks that respond to the seven colors of the tale, but in our version, to symbolize the promise of the rainbow, we will have an eighth room, which will be yellow, and red will run through the hallway. Additionally, through our creative hanging and curation system, in each room all the works will be connected to one another.
So, while the party will be about the end, and artist party-goers are encouraged to wear the color of their room, and yes, colorful masks will be provided– the exhibition can look forward to an exciting new place as we stay connected and do more together.
