Guillermo Bublik Bio & Statement
I grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and came to the U.S.A. to pursue a graduate degree in Physics. I saw beauty in the symmetrical arrangement of Maxwell’s equations governing electro-magnetism and found it fascinating that they could describe real life processes.
I am awed by every form of human ingenuity. Witnessing what is made possible by the spark of creativity makes me feel blessed to have been born. Even though the right/left distinction works as a way to identify the prevalent brain areas engaged in human activities, I believe that a unified source of scientific, technical, and artistic creativity lies in the thirst to find underlying patterns, forms, structures, and beauty in the world we inhabit.
I am especially attracted to the visual arts and their potential to deliver strong emotions all at once, whether it takes a few seconds or a lifetime for a full digestion of their message. This may have been the implicit reason why I started painting after retiring from a technical career.
I identify myself mainly as an abstract expressionist, and am particularly interested in the interplay between chance and purpose. I believe that the most vibrant art is created when the conscious brain and the hand that facilitates the unconscious are a single step out of phase. If one is way ahead of the other the painting runs the risk of being either stilted or chaotic.
I am thrilled that painting provides me the vehicle to connect with other people on both an emotional and an intellectual level.
