PictureKati Villim: Chroma
Be part of our Grand Opening Exhibition at the new Drawing Rooms on Newark Ave. Celebrate the years of inspiring art experiences behind us and look forward with us to many exciting exhibits and programs to come.

Last year, the artists and public who participated in our Somewhere Over the Interconnected Rainbow exhibition helped us raise enough money so it was possible for us to leave the Grand St. convent building and create a new  Drawing Rooms at the Topps Building at the Mana campus, Jersey City. Thank you!

This year, we are excited to invite you to be part of  Somewhere We Landed, the fundraiser exhibit that launches our new space and helps us to start our exciting exhibition season!

Even though we are in our 18th year as a non-profit art-space, we continue to create new beginnings.

Artists were asked to create works that relate to new beginnings, new adventure, new body of work, outer space, atmosphere, place, transportation, land, nature, or utopia. Hundreds of works by area artists will be for sale during the course of the show, 5/3/19 - 5/11/19,  for $200 each.

In addition to more than 130 artists exhibiting 200+ works, all for sale for $200, benefiting Drawing Rooms exhibitions and programs, Kati Vilim's Chroma, a site-specific abstract installation, will be created in the hallway of Drawing Rooms gallery.

Chroma will contain a digital animation projection and light fixtures suspended from the ceiling and hung on the walls and sound effects. This temporary installation will generate an immersive experience as the visitors are walking through it entering the gallery space.

The light effects of the installation are transcending, not only in the way we perceive the architecture of this industrial environment. It is also changing our sense of time as we are passing through the hallway.

The color lights are activating the space, and the viewer is getting a chance to feel merged with his/her environment, as the sense of isolation of the individuals just easily dissolve.
Jon Gonnelli, a well-known working musician residing in the Greenville section of Jersey City, is working with Kati to develop music that will be part of the installation.

Jon will also be performing inside Drawing Rooms as Thin Ears, his stripped down project, after 7:30p.

The May 4th opening reception weekend will also feature the new journal of works from Rainbow Thursdays Artists, our outreach program for adults with disabilities and their work will be part of the exhibition. All proceeds from the sales of artwork will go to support the gallery and programs.

Just announced!
