Rewriting Herstory:
An Artsy International Exhibition Honoring Inspiring Women Open to all Professional Local, National and International Artists DESCRIPTION OF SHOW The Year of the Woman was a popular label for 1992, after the election resulted in 5 female US Senators. Now, in 2021, 119 women represent 27.4% of the total 117th US House of Representatives. Of the 119 women, 89 are Democrats. In 2016, Hillary Clinton spoke of the glass ceiling, a metaphor, which refers to an invisible barrier that prevents women and minorities from moving forward. In 2020, Kamala Harris broke that ceiling hard and shattered glass was heard around the world when she made history as the first woman and woman of color as Vice President. Drawing Rooms sent out prayers across the country in the 2020 national public art prayer flag exhibition, Prayers for the Pandemic, and we continue our focus on social justice. So many women’s accomplishments in every field haven’t gotten the same attention that men have. Straight, gay, trans, Black, Brown, Asian, Indigenous, White, etc– women have not been fairly represented. After all, history was written by men. Rewriting Herstory attempts to set the record straight and rewrite history to include herstory. We want to honor all inspiring women (special shout out to BIPOC)- contemporary, as well as throughout history, national, as well as international women. We want to tell their stories visually and through text. NOTE Although we all have women in our family, friends or acquaintances who are inspiring, this exhibition seeks to include women who have affected people on a larger historic scale. Rewriting Herstory will be an Artsy exhibition and featured on our website, as well as social media. The show will run all year. We will also produce a print and online catalogue of the exhibition. We are seeking submissions in any media– either portrait-based or non portrait-based work using symbols, concepts or text, 2D or 3D. (no video) 1. Upload up to 4 jpgs in one of the above exhibit themes. Submit form below for each jpg. (4 jpgs = 4 times you'll hit the submit button) 2. Size: 300 dpi jpeg images, at least 1800 pixels on the shortest side 3.
