JC LIBRARY PRAYER FLAGS PROJECT 2020-21

JC Library Prayers Flags Project at JCAST
A Public Art Project at Ten Public Libraries in Jersey City by Drawing Rooms,
10/01/20 - 11/02/20
Thanks to a grant from the Jersey City Mayor’s COVID-19 Relief Distribution Fund

Drawing Rooms is teaming up with Jersey City Public Libraries to create JC Library Prayer Flags Project, a city-wide display of flags placed at ten public libraries throughout Jersey City.

The display is inspired by Tibetan prayer flags that are used to bless the surrounding area. Library-goers of all ages contributed photos of their neighborhoods, families, pets, and people who inspire them as well as inspirational quotes. Then the images were woven together into a visual narrative of the community by Drawing Rooms’ Curator, Anne Trauben and Director, James Pustorino. The flags will be installed for the Jersey City Art and Studio Tour weekend which will kick off the project’s month-long display across the city.

Drawing Rooms’ Curator, Anne Trauben says, “While we are all living through the coronavirus pandemic and the fight to create racial justice and equality, we feel we could all use blessings. The flags placed at neighborhood libraries’ fencing and windows will send out good karma to those neighborhoods and create a sense of community among participants as well as viewers.”

This project is funded by Drawing Rooms’ project grant from the Jersey City Mayor’s COVID-19 Relief Distribution Fund.

The flag project will be installed at the libraries by the end of September and featured in the Jersey City Art and Studio Tour, 10/1/20 - 10/4/20. Please visit the JCAST site at www.thejcast.com/listings/drawing-rooms

The project will be on display at the libraries through the month of October.
JC Library Prayer Flags Project is an outdoor display. You can walk or drive by anytime to see the project!
