Karen Starrett Bio & Statement
The paintings in this intimate exhibition reflect my invisible feelings and intangible experiences. As I work on a painting, I am unaware of what it will look like when completed. The imagery that evolves is not pre-planned. Each painting begins in an intuitive process of painting random circles, forms, and linear elements, wiping them away and redrawing them many times over. As I work on each painting these abstract elements morph into recognizable female imagery.
My studio is located at the Jersey Shore Arts Center, Ocean Grove, NJ. Studio visits are welcome by appointment. Exhibition history includes solo and group shows throughout the NY/NJ metropolitan area. I have also curated exhibits at the Monmouth Museum and other venues. I am a graduate of Douglass College and an alumnus of the School of Visual Arts.
