Linda Gottesfeld Artist Bio & Statement
Manufactured Landscape, by artist Linda Gottesfeld, features digital prints using photographs taken on site and satellite imagery from the Wakhotahatchee Wetlands in Delray Beach, Florida. These digital prints are composites, an equal mix of the photograph and the satellite image from Google Earth. In this macro and micro depiction of landscape, the bucolic but mannered views, show a natural environment within a dense suburb. The wetlands present a pristine landscape of the former, original untampered area, a place to contemplate what would remain if the area was not developed, inhabited. The natural becomes the manufactured. Gottesfeld uses both public sourced images and her own photographs of the site to meditate on the notion of proximity and distance., how we experience landscape over time.
Linda Gottesfeld received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and a MFA at the University of California, Berkeley. She teaches at Pace University in New York City and has lived in New Jersey and New York.
