THANKS TO ALL WHO CONTRIBUTED to the success of our final Weekend at 180 Grand.

You are helping us build a new art gallery for JERSEY CITY!

Some of the works in Somewhere Over the Interconnected Rainbow & Prospero's Grand St. Masque, Sale continues into Monday 6/11

Drawing Rooms Moves Uptown!

A looking-forward-to-a new-place-where-wonderful-things-can-happen final party, as we leave our convent art center.

After five exciting years of inventive programs and exhibitions, Drawing Rooms is leaving the convent building at 180 Grand St in Jersey City,  because the building is being re-purposed.

We feel truly excited and fortunate to be going to the Topps building at the Mana campus, where there is already a hub of artistic energy and activity.

Thhanks to all who joined us in saying goodbye to the convent at our farewell fundraiser FINAL EXHIBITION & PARTY, Somewhere Over the Interconnected Rainbow & Prospero’s Grand St Masque, and help support us in creating a new gallery and workspace we can be proud of and continue our innovative programs. The new gallery space is currently in a corrugated metal warehouse, but don't worry– we have exciting plans to make our gallery into a fantastic place!

Somewhere Over the Interconnected Rainbow & Prospero’s Grand St Masque
Seven rooms in seven colors plus two, and music throughout!
The theme for our closing party is taken from Edgar Allen Poe’s Masque of Red Death, a short story published in 1842. Prince Prospero attempts to avoid a dangerous plague, known as the Red Death, by hiding in his abbey. He, along with many other wealthy nobles, hosts a masquerade ball within seven rooms of the abbey, each decorated and illuminated in seven colors: blue, green, violet, orange, purple, white and black. It was to be their final party. Our party turns the story on its head, our convent is not a place to hide, it has always welcomed all and brought together everyone.

Just like Prospero’s Masqued Ball, the final exhibition in the convent will feature seven rooms in seven colors, each room filled with artworks that respond to the seven colors of the tale, but in our version, to symbolize the promise of the rainbow, we will have an eighth room, which will be yellow, and red will run through the hallway. Additionally, through our creative hanging and curation system, in each room all the works will be connected to one another.

So, while the party will be about an end, and artist party-goers are encouraged to wear the color of their room, and yes, colorful masks will be provided– the exhibition can look forward to a rebirth in an exciting new place as we stay connected and do more together.

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high
And the dream that you dare to dream
Why, oh why can't we?!
